Car Insurance Alberta Features And Benefits

July 22, 2011 By: Adriana Noton Category: Family Car Insurance

Every driver in Canada is required to carry insurance on their vehicles. Similar to the United States, insurance laws and requirements will vary from Canadian territory to territory. Car insurance Alberta has it’s own specific rules and guidelines.

Some Canadian provinces will require that their citizens buy their car insurance through the provincial government and then buy any other optional protections from a traditional insurance company. All the provinces except for two will allow the citizens to seek restitution for wages and for distress arising from a car wreck.

Alberta allows its citizens to purchase the optional coverages and the mandatory liability coverages from private insurance companies. There are 70 companies that are able to sell car policies in Alberta. Economic loss has no maximum limit, but claims for pain and suffering are limited to just under five thousand dollars.

As in other countries, Canadian policies are based on the required bodily injury protection. Alberta caps the bodily injury at two hundred thousand per wreck and will cap the property damage at ten thousand if the wreck causes a combination of property damage and bodily injury.

Another feature Canadian vehicle polices is the medical payment section. In Alberta, medical coverage has a $50,000 ceiling for one person. If the insured does not have their own health insurance that covers rehabilitation, this will be included in that limit. The maximums are assessed by the individual and by the incident. This section of the policy also includes protection for chiropractic services up to $750. All benefits are required to be reported and resolved within 2 years of the incident.

Disability payments are also available on Canadian policies. In Alberta, the disability income benefit is limited to eighty percent of the weekly wages before taxes capped at four hundred per week up to one hundred and four weeks. There is a seven day elimination period during which no funds are payable. If the person is an unemployed adult the benefits are limited to one hundred thirty five per week for a maximum of twenty six weeks.

When a household member dies in a car wreck, the policy can pay a death benefit of up to $10,000. In addition, there is a twenty percent payment to dependents as well as a $15,000 payment to any spouse who survives the accident. Alternately, if the spouse of the primary named insured is killed in a wreck the payout is $10,000.

Lastly, auto policies in Alberta and in Canada in general can provide a funeral expense benefit of up to five thousand dollars. This benefit covers any household member killed in an auto accident.

Overall, the availability and flexibility of auto insurance Alberta in the territory is good, due to the fact that all coverages are available on the private market. Being able to purchase the mandatory and optional coverages from private companies allows for a more competitive marketplace and helps keep the cost of the various coverages down.

With years of experience and a good driving record, why pay more for auto insurance quote when you have earned the right to pay less.

Auto Insurance for Student Drivers

June 18, 2011 By: Reggie Mitchell Category: Young Drivers Car Insurance

These days, it is a good thing for students to drive their own car that could comfortably bring them to and from school. It is understandable for students who have just recently passed driving exams to be excited with this new freedom. If you are among these students, you have to keep in mind that you would need a car insurance when driving around. Generally auto insurance for drivers who are not yet 25 years old costs more than for the rest.

The rationale behind this is that insurance companies believe young drivers are more prone to risks than older ones. The combination of little experience and a more carefree behavior is what drives these insurance costs up. Sadly, statistics bear this rationale to be correct.

However, you may resort to some options to get a good discount for your auto insurance. A number of insurance companies have designed packages intended for student drivers. They will factor in the kind of training you went through for driving, and also how you do in school. Those who complete courses in advanced or defensive driving may be given lowered rates for insurance premiums.

Getting and maintaining good grades in school also can get you good discounts from insurance providers. The thinking behind this is that students who can keep good grades are responsible individuals and this would be reflected even on their driving and car maintenance. However, if you get a speeding ticket or get involved in an accident, your discount may be revoked, so being a very careful and responsible driver is also important. Additionally, maintaining a clean driving record until you reach the age of 25 could give you further discounts that you could start to enjoy when you reach that age.

Some insurance companies also offer insurance packages based on a student’s monthly income. Giving consideration to students’ limited funds is a good way for insurance companies to support driving students.
